A Viking Project - Part II

Next instalment of the Viking project.

The standard bearer is from Gripping Beast with LBMS banner.

Viking warriors from Saxon Miniatures - loose weapons to be added later. Shield decals LBMS.

Viking Leader from Warlord Games.

The basing is the usual combo of pva & sand, painted in a series of earthy tones. I have used tufts from Leadbears Tufts (made in Australia), and static flock.

Another part to follow...

All the best,
John.

A Viking Project - Part I

As I write I am nearing the end of this particular project, which has taken most of October for me to complete. This post contains the initial third of the project - I like to break it into chunks so that the miniatures will fit on the paint stands on my desk.
I have taken these pictures in front of my village backdrop on the garage gaming table, the others may have to done in my usual method as my son has taken over the gaming table with Lego at present :-)
I hope you enjoy this first part of the Viking commission. The miniatures are all 28mm metal, the "heroically naked" berserkers are from Wargames Foundry, the others are from Crusader Miniatures. The shields are all hand painted in reasonably simple designs. The other two thirds of the project will make use of shield decals. Bases are 3 mm thick mdf, 25 mm diameter. I used a combination of static flock and tufts from Leadbears Tufts, an Australian company.

Ragnar Lothbrok & Javelin Armed Skirmishers

Ragnar Lothbrok (or Lodbrok), a heroic 28mm miniature from Gripping Beast. I painted this more as a display figure in my collection, but who knows, he might see some action. A really nice miniature to paint. The base is 3mm mdf.

28mm Javelin armed skirmishers for my Anglo-Saxons. They were originally in the Gripping Beast slingers pack, but the miniatures are really dual purpose. I cut down some spare spears to be more suitable as javelins.

Have had a slight slow-down recently with my posts & painting - managed to get a stomach bug, plus have done something to my left shoulder/upper arm which has been causing lots of pain, off to see Physio on Monday.

All the best,
John.
